eSIM installation vs activation: when does validity start?
Understand the difference between installing an eSIM profile and starting your package validity.
Two steps that are easy to confuse
Installation adds the eSIM profile to your phone. Activation is the event that starts service or the package validity under your plan’s rules. These events are not necessarily the same. Never assume every package starts only when you arrive or that installation always starts the clock.
Read the package instructions first
Before scanning a QR code, check your order’s activation conditions and installation instructions. If the start rule is unclear, ask support with your order number before installing. This is especially useful when buying well ahead of your departure.
Prepare a reliable connection
Download the profile while you have internet access. Keep the QR code on another screen or use manual details if supplied. Give the line a clear name so you can distinguish it from your home SIM later. Keep activation details private.
On arrival
Choose the travel eSIM for mobile data and follow the package’s roaming and APN instructions. Check your home line’s roaming and automatic data-switching settings to avoid unintended data use on that line.
